Case in point: How excited was I to find this amazing purple model!? It’s so pretty! Way prettier than a simple hair styling tool has any right to be. Flat irons offer an easy, safe way to straighten hair.

It may sound kind of silly, but the truth is that having beautiful straight hair has been one of my lifelong dreams. There’s just nothing prettier than long, shiny hair swinging around and catching the light. You just can’t duplicate it with curly hair like the kind I was born with! Luckily, my mom introduced me to the wonders of GHD flat irons when I was a freshman in high school, and I haven’t looked back since! I know there are lots of different ways to straighten your hair, but here are a few of the reasons why I think GHD flat irons are your best bet:

• Easy to use. You don’t have to go to a salon or enlist a friend to help, the way you do with a lot of chemical straighteners. All you have to do is plug it in, heat it up, and run it through small sections of your hair. Ta-da, you have straight hair that should last the rest of the day!
• Safe. Chemical straighteners can burn your scalp, cause rashes or just dry out your natural hair. But heat styling is relatively non-invasive, especially if you use a thermal protectant beforehand and give your locks a break from the heat every now and then.
• Affordable. A good GHD flat iron isn’t cheap, but considering how much you’ll probably end up using it, it’s actually a very cost-effective investment.

With my GHD flat irons I can look like my style icon, Drew Barrymore, everyday!

My best friend is in cosmetology school and she is going to be such an amazing stylist.  She has been doing my hair since we were in high school - any big event she would help me style my hair.  Prom, first dates, job interviews - you name it, she has been there for me.  The problem is that if I don’t have her around, I never know how to make my hair look good.  My hair is wavy and it doesn’t curl “pretty.”  I can’t just let it air dry because then it looks frizzy and horrible.  When I do blow it dry, I have to do something else to straighten it or curl it because it does not look good in the “in-between” world.  And now I’m really in trouble because I just got a job three hours away from where we live and I am moving….which means I can’t have my best friend there for me to help me with my hair!  I really was distraught about this until she showed up with my moving gift:  a GHD flat iron.  She had just discovered them in school and she had fallen in love.  She also knew GHD flat irons would be the perfect way for me to start doing my hair on my own.  Having my new flat iron is like having her with me, so it was a perfect gift.  It doesn’t tell jokes and make me laugh like she does….but that is what phones are for.

When it comes to the kinds of tools I use to style my hair, I’m totally monogamous with GHD. Bet you didn’t know that you can get your hair to look like that without the use of a curling iron. In fact, with GHD flat irons you can get hair just like Lea Michele’s. I hate having a bunch of hair products and devices laying around, but with my GHD I can get both straight hair and wavy hair.

All I really do is stick my hair up and then pull it down in chunks. I’ll brush out the piece, and put a little bit of product in it; it doesn’t matter if its some kind of moose or hair spray as long as its sticky. Then I’ll use my GHD flat iron and create some pretty but not too put together waves. I like when my hair looks a little reckless; it gives it personality. The product will give make it stay and the GHD will give you the waves, just like Lea’s

Sigh, doesn’t she look pretty. The award season is just barely underway though, with the Grammys right around the corner and with the Golden Globes, Oscars, etc all still to come. I love Lea and the rest of the Glee cast so I’ll definitely be watching the red carpet to see what she she comes up with next.

• Divide your hair into sections.  When you are styling your hair, it is much more manageable to do it one small section at a time.  Use clips or bobby pins to hold back the section of hair you are not working on.  An effective way is to work from under to outer.  Styling the under layers of your hair first means that the top layers will remain perfectly coiffed.
• Within the sections you are working on, divide your hair further into one to two inch sections to use your GHD flat iron on at a time.  This allows concentrated styling ability.  This is especially important when creating a wavy or curly style.
• If you are striving to curl your hair with your flat iron, you can wrap your one inch section around the barrel of your GHD, just as you would with curling iron.  The flat iron will give your hair a much more natural looking curl, like Lauren Conrad.
